We all gotta have it. As you may have noticed, I’ve been redoing the site; mainly this has been after complaints about the speed. It had gotten pretty durned pokey. And while at it, we made a couple of other changes. So… A couple of announcements: 1. The whole Freebie download thing is much easier now. So for those of you who want something for nothing? You have to do even less of that nothing. If such a thing is even possible. 2. If you purchase individual songs directly, they are now a one-click buy if you use PayPal. No [...]
You Will Pay For That!
10.3.2010
I promise we’re nearing the end of non-musical non-sense for a while. I’m eager to get back to music now that we’ve wrapped up the logistics of the new site. There may be one more such post—concerning rendering musical samples of Detroit, but that should give one heart that we’re finally getting ’round to crankin’ out some tunes, dude! …one of my fave lines from pretty much any horror or action movie. From Lost In Space to Goldfinger, the bad guy always gets to say that. And I love it every time. (BTW: I’ve been re-watching the Brit TV series [...]
The Evil Empire IE Mea Culpa
10.3.2010
About an hour after I raised the flag on the new site, the complaints began to creep in. Complaints that seem a bit like body odor. No one wants to mention it, but… And the rancidness you were experiencing seemed to exude most from those machines still running Internet Explorer. In my arrogance; surrounded by geeky Seattle which knows better than to use IE, I felt comforted in ignoring the possibility of quirks with the Redmond Browser. I did not feel the massive gravity which would compel a web designer anywhere else in the world to double and triple-check his [...]
2011: New Site
Tada! So much for understatement. In any event, Happy New Year! and welcome to the new site. I hope you’ll find it easier to use and more informative. The Hills Are Alive First I want to mention the new design. My main goal in this re-design was that the site should better reflect what the music is ‘about’.
Slow…
09.4.2010
Life is getting slower. At least on the vast Interweb. And I blame those diabolical Swedes. Now every few years we go through these cycles of ‘reach’ vs. ‘grasp’. For a while, ‘hardware’ rules. Life is zippy. Pundits bitch about how our computers are ‘under-utilised’ and bemoan the ‘boredom’ of software. Then we go through a phase where there’s all this new, trés cool software which leaves our various devices gasping; and us waiting. Sadly, we’re going through one of the latter phases now.
Hotter Ringtones
Some of you have complained that the ringtones are nice, but not loud enough. Well…I fixed that little problem. These things now generate enough oomph to make your Android or iPhone scream with… er… well… something. Additionally, the new versions should be compatible with more brands of phones. (Some didn’t seem to want to play well with the high res audio we try to provide.) Again; should be better now. So if you haven’t already done so, please show your support and try out one of our snazzy ringtones. Next time your phone rings, bystanders will hear those sounds and [...]
What Did You Do To The Site?
05.18.2010
I want to apologise for the past few days of graphical mayhem on the site. I think the storm is mostly over. It’s not the result of any nefarious doings or some vast interweb meltdown. Nope. Just me dickin’ around. As some of you are aware, I am constantly making small changes to the web site. I try to ‘slipstream’ these so that they are largely unnoticeable as they happen, but over time the site slowly morphs. And all the while, I try to keep ‘the brand’ consistent. And then there is the occasional tweak that has, what they call [...]
Getting People To Dance: The New Download Scheme
Been doing a lot of dance gigs recently—building the ol’ chops to play live again. And I’ve been wondering about why people dance to some songs and not others. There are lots of songs that we’ll play that are just slammin’ but the dancers? Ho humsville. Then other songs, that everyone in the band feels totally ambivalent about? The dancers lose their minds. There is a middle-aged stampede to hump the stuffed tiger. (Don’t ask.) Now you could say that the above situation is because ‘the band’ likes songs that are more musically interesting than the dancers, but this is [...]
